Places of Worship

Mount Carmel Arabic Immersion staff will gladly help you find your nearest house of worship, whether in your host village or in a nearby community.

The Carmel villages themselves are home to a Maronite Catholic church and a Muslim mosque, as well as several Druze hilwas and holy sites. Roman Catholic services are held at the Mukhraqa monastery near Daliyat al-Karmel.

In Haifa there is a wide variety of Christian churches, including Anglican-Episcopalian, Baptist, Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Melkite, Maronite, Russian Orthodox, Church of the Nazarene, and more.

Muslims will find several mosques in Haifa, including the large Masjid al-Istiqlal in the Lower City, and the mosque of the Ahmadiyya community on the Carmel Ridge. Baha’is may pray at the Baha'i World Center.

Haifa has an estimated 240 Jewish synagogues of every type and description. The Central Synagogue is located in the Hadar district. The Ahuza neighborhood, easily accessible from the Carmel villages, is home to both Reform and Conservative congregations.
